We are very proud to share that at Anderson Moore we have recently received our award and accreditation from Investors in the Environment (IIE) after further focusing on sustainability within our hospital.
Investors in the Environment (IIE) is a national accreditation scheme designed to help organisations reduce their impact on the environment.
This initiative was led by our Sustainability Lead and RVN Becky Ward who focused on particular aspects of the running of the hospital to make wide-ranging changes to our practices and procedures, reflecting the sustained commitment shown by the team. This started with the creation and implementation of a new eco-friendly policy to reduce our environmental impact.
The changes started with simple things, such as installing LED lights and switching off lights when not in use, planting flowers for endangered insect life, trying to replace cars with bikes to get to work, to bigger changes such as using low-flow anaesthesia in theatre and measuring and monitoring electricity, gas and water usage.
The IIE’s audit was incredibly positive and stated: ‘The team at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists has made an excellent start at understanding their environmental performance and establishing an Environmental Management System (EMS) to reduce their resource use and environmental impact.’
The Investors in the Environment annual audit consists of an assessment of five key areas of an organisation’s EMS. These include:
• Environmental policy
• Resource management and monitoring
• Progress against targets
• Action planning including social/environmental projects
• Communication
