Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia for pets

We are proud to offer a Specialist anaesthesia service for our patients headed up by Colette Joliffe.

Anaesthesia and sedation are a vital part of the management of referred patients, many of whom are affected by a number of diseases. Safety is our number one priority with anaesthesia and our approach takes into account all factors associated with the individual patient. We create an individual anaesthetic plan specifically tailored to every pet that requires investigations or a procedure as part of their visit.

Our team is led by Specialist anaesthetists, supported by residency-trained clinicians and residents, and we are dedicated to ensuring our standard of care is as high as possible. Our residency programme enables us to train the Specialists of the future in all aspects of anaesthesia, pain management and critical care.

Complications directly due to anaesthesia or sedation are rare in dogs or cats and most complications are related to the condition that they are being treated for. If an animal has suffered a complication previously, we can take that into account and our very experienced anaesthetists can use different drug combinations and techniques in order to minimise any further risk. If you would like to discuss your pet’s anaesthetic with a Specialist, please ask.

Our Specialists are active in teaching vets about anaesthesia and pain management. This includes running educational courses nationally and contributing to texts and journals on the subject. We contribute nationally and internationally to the anaesthesia community through the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists.
