Rocky and the Rock!

Playful 4 year old German Shepherd dog Rocky loves playing with stones – but the beloved pet’s favourite game went wrong when he had to be rushed to vets!

His owner said she was left ‘traumatised’ after her four-year-old dog ‘inhaled’ a rock and was left coughing and struggling to breathe. She said he had never done anything like this before,

He was instantly referred to our Internal Medicine team and Victoria Neale, one of our Residents in Internal Medicine, had the task of locating and removing the stone.

Victoria used a camera to look for the stone, which she located in his left bronchus – the tube leading into the lung. She said: “Rocky was seen to ingest a stone the day before we saw him, which had led to ongoing coughing and retching.”

The stone was successfully retrieved and Rocky was discharged with a course of anti-inflammatory medication and painkillers.

Hi owner finished by saying “Rocky is much better and back to his normal self, although we are not letting him play with rocks anymore! Anderson Moores have been the best and so kind, helpful and friendly towards us and Rocky, we can’t thank them enough.”
