Oesophageal Tube Care

If the tube in the video is different to the one your pet has been given and it is the one in the picture below, it has a single port at the end where the syringe attaches directly to the end of the tube. The tube is fitted with a ‘one way valve’ which will stop food and water coming back out of the tube.

You will need to keep gentle constant pressure on the syringe at all times to keep the one way valve open. You may feel some resistance with thicker food, but as long as you apply constant gentle pressure the food should pass easily.

Cleaning and care of this tube is exactly the same as the video.

When your pet is discharged from our hospital you will be given a full set of instructions with how to best look after them now they are back home to aid their full recovery. We are always here to help, and your local vet will most likely be the point of call for their longer term care.

These instructions will include what to feed them, how often to walk or exercise them as well and when and how to give them their medications.
