We are still recruiting cats for our hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) clinical trial involving the nutritional management of pre-clinical felines. For a cat to be considered at the screening process of the trial they must have experienced any of the following:
The only three conditions that would make the cat unsuitable for screening are:
Q: Who is eligible for the screening?
A: Any cat with suspected pre-clinical (not on treatment for heart failure) HCM.
Q: What does it cost?
A: The screening visit and echocardiography is FREE of charge for the owners, even if the cat does not meet the inclusion criteria.
If a cat is enrolled to the study, they will have three visits (enrolment, 6 months, 12 months) FREE of charge. Each visit includes the full Doppler-echocardiographic examination, blood tests and blood pressure measurement. All these visits and investigations are free for the owner. If the cat is enrolled to the study, a FREE diet will be provided for the whole study period.
Q: What if a cat is already on the treatment (e.g. ACE-inhibitors, beta-blockers etc)?
A: The cats that have been on stable medication for at least 8 weeks can still be enrolled. Only the cats that have been treated for congestive heart failure (i.e. receiving diuretics) cannot be enrolled.
Please contact our cardiologists Valentina Palermo or Paul Motskula by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone 01962 767920, if you would like further information on the study, to discuss a possible case for the study, or would like advice on any other cardiac patient.
